Wake weatherman Al Roker in Al's Weather Rokies on iOS
Popular weatherman Al Roker has launched his other weather-themed game on iOS devices. Co-created by Kate Linendoll, a technology contributor to The TODAY show, "Al's Weather Rokies" sees players helping Al Roker wake up before he oversleeps. The game was inspired by a real-world event, as Roker overslept for the first time in his career in 2013. With Roker's passion for weather, gamers will interact with weather-themed items to wake the TV personality up before it's too late.
In Al's Weather Rokies, players are challenged with matching symbols, called Rokies, by swiping Rokies from the bottom of the screen into Roker's dream bubble at the top. The goal is to create a path for a virtual Roker to navigate to reach his alarm clock. Roker provided voice overs for the app, and provided some of the sketches used in the game's art during development.
Al's Weather Rokies integrates players' real world locations to theme symbols to the weather in a player's current location, and features two gameplay worlds of 10 levels each, as well as bonus rounds.
"Creating an app that fused animation and weather was an exciting opportunity I could not pass up. I loved being part of the creative process and sketching some of the mascots featured in the game," said Roker. "I challenge everyone to WAKE ME UP!"
Al's Weather Rokies is available for $0.99 on iOS devices.
