Although it won't dethrone Candy Crush Saga from the top of the iOS charts, Candy Blast Mania
is a decent knock-off with its share of power-ups and boss battles to
keep you busy. Plus, it provides a bit of free content before its
freemium model kicks in, so you can try before investing.
To get you started in this candy-coated world, here are some helpful tips.
-You'll learn all the basic things about gameplay through an opening
tutorial during the first few levels, but the important things to watch
for are "hot spots". There are three different kinds.
The first doubles the point value for the wanted candy on each level.
If you activate this with a nearby match of three or more - no matter
what you match - you'll see the value increase for a single turn on
these candies. Match up as many as you can in one shot.
The second eliminates all similarly-colored candies from a play
field, depending on the match-three you're lining up. If you eliminate a
row of orange ones, all the remaining orange candies will disappear
from the stage until they start piling in again with those that drop.
You'll get these with match-four or more.
Finally, you have the row eliminators, which glow in a wild green
color. Once you activate a three-or-more match on these, the vertical
and horizontal rows vanish, and you'll get credit for all the candies
you clear as a result. Earn these with a match-five or more.
-You can actually combine all three of these together in a successful
run. Doing so will take out multiple candies at once, leading to more
collection and getting you closer to the goal. Start from the bottom if
you can, as more candy that drops has a better chance of lining up for
elimination.
-Even if it's not one of the "wanted" candy flavors in a stage, it
doesn't hurt to clear rows of four-or-more if you see them. Doing so
activates the "hot spots" on the board, as well as a better chance to
multiply the value of the candy you want to get rid of. Try to do it in
the beginning, though, and save the last of your turns for the candies
you need to collect the most.
-When it comes to boss battles, pay attention to what candies you
need to match up and try to get them as quickly as possible. The Gummi
Bear King will stop at nothing to flood your board with jawbreakers, so
work your away around them and keep making key matches. The first round
is a good way to practice against his advances, but later rounds, you'll
need skill to keep up with him.
-As with any freemium game, keep an eye out for promotional offers
before you spend money. By signing in to Facebook, you'll get an
additional 40 gems, which allow you to buy more power-ups.
-Finally, when it comes to candy power-ups, the Candy Wand is good
for eliminating solo pieces, but if you really want to mix things up, go
with the Sugar Blast. This destroys a whole row of candies and does
significant damage to jawbreakers. The only catch is that you only get
to use it once or twice per stage. Save it for key moments.
