In celebration of the upcoming theatrical launch of Maleficent, Disney Interactive has announced the launch of Maleficent Free Fall on iOS, Android and Windows devices. The title offers similar gameplay to Disney's Frozen Free Fall, as both games take players on a level-based match-three journey through their respective films.
In Maleficent Free Fall, players will interact with characters from the film, including both young and adult versions of Maleficent herself. Each level has its own completion goal, move limit and companion, and may ask players to 'light up' all of the squares on the board by making matches on top of them (as one example).
Players can spend magic, a free currency, on power-ups during levels. For instance, players can activate Maleficent's raven Diaval, which clears one chosen gem from the board. In addition, creating matches of four or more like gems, or matches in special L or T shapes, creates boosts on the board. These boosts are capable of clearing whole rows and columns of gems, among other effects.
If players are unable to complete a level's goal before running out of moves, they lose a life. These lives recharge automatically over time, or can be purchased instantly with real money. Gamers earn up to three stars on each stage, and can replay these levels indefinitely to increase their high scores or unlock previously missed stars.
Maleficent Free Fall is available to download for free on iOS, Google Play, Windows Phone and the Windows Store. The film will hit theaters on May 30.
