Mobile game developer Glitchsoft, in partnership with Marvel, has released Uncanny X-Men: Days of Future Past on iOS devices. The action side-scroller was inspired by the world of the Uncanny X-Men comic books, and tells the story of the Sentinel Uprising.
In the story, the world has been ruined, and the X-Men failed to stop its destruction. They've been given one chance to re-write the past to stop the destruction (and the war that caused it) from occurring.
In Uncanny X-Men, users have access to multiple characters, including Wolverine, Shadowcat, Cyclops, Colossus and Scarlet Witch. The game is split into 23 stages across multiple locations, including post-apocalyptic New York City, the X-Mansion, Asteroid M and more.
In each stage, users control their character using left and right arrows, a button to jump, and a button to attack. Swiping is also used to attack, triggering special actions which cause more damage. At the end of each level, gamers are given a score based on their combat proficiency, and the number of hidden collectibles they've collected in the world. These collectibles include character bios and concept art, for some additional fan service.
While the game's storyline is said to offer at least five hours of gameplay, users can repeat levels indefinitely, which is helpful when going after missed collectibles. In addition, the more levels players complete, the more XP they'll earn, which is spent to unlock special abilities for each mutant.
Uncanny X-Men: Days of Future Past is available to download for $2.99 on iOS, and is coming soon to Android. The game does not include in-app purchases.
