The latest news that came through the grapevine recently was that Flappy Bird creator, Dong Nguyen, has said in an interview with CNBC that the irritatingly addictive game is to be re-released in August. Interestingly enough, Epic Games, the studio behind Gears of War, released their own version of the game called Tappy Chicken. Here's the twist no one expected: the game was made with the new Unreal Engine 4. That's jaw dropping news!
According to an Epic spokesperson, "Tappy Chicken is the perfect showcase for the ease of use and flexibility of Unreal Engine 4″. They go on to say that, "while it may not flex the full graphical muscle of the engine, it shows how almost anyone can make a fun and pretty game fit for mobile devices and web browsers."
Looking at the screenshots of the game, I have to say that it does look really good. The colours are vibrant and yet still maintains the retro aesthetic of the original. Plus, it comes with collectible eggs that you can gather the further you progress into the game.
So there you have it, a Flappy Bird clone build by one of gaming's finest developers using the latest and arguably the best graphical engine available. If you are interested in making great looking games, head on over to the Unreal Engine website to check it out. If you are interested in downloading Tappy Chicken while you wait for the original to return in August, it is available on the Google Play Store for free!
