Pastry Paradise is another match-3 game in the same vein as Candy Crush
Saga. In fact it's pretty much a straight clone of King's smash hit. It
plays well enough but players can expect the same shallow gameplay and
in-app purchases that are lifted almost straight from Candy Crush Saga.
The Good
The
game has colorful and consistent graphics. It is completely inoffensive
and great for children. The game is fun enough and is a decent
distraction. If you really, REALLY, like match-3 games and have soaked
up all that Candy Crush Saga has to offer, then this is a great place to
pick back up.
The Bad
There is no innovation in this game
or memorable characters. The pastry angle is a gimmick and the game
doesn't actually take any advantage of its setting. This game is a
continuation of the trend of lackluster freemium games that plaster the
App Store and will be extremely boring to anyone but children and those
who just absolutely crave more of the match-three genre. In addition,
the game has the same heart system as Candy Crush Saga, making players
either pay or wait for thirty minutes to gain a heart back to play again
if they expend their lives.
The Verdict
This game brings
nothing to the table. It's absolutely boring, and the fact that this
blatant clone is from Gameloft, a large mobile game producer, speaks of
the unfortunate trend in mobile gaming of imitation, not innovation.
This one is worth skipping as your time could be spent playing any game
with a shred of originality. It gets points for playing as described,
but that's about it.
