Mobile game developer Fingerlab has announced the launch of its side-scrolling platformer, Atom Run, on Android devices. The game takes players to the year 2264, where an "unprecedented disaster" has killed all living things. Robots now populate the earth, but some are more dangerous than others.
In Atom Run, players control Elgo, a robot with the design of a man, who must track down the world's remaining atoms and molecules to create new life. Players have infinite lives, and they'll need them, as each environment is full of obstacles, from rotating saw blades and electrified walls / floors to spike traps and flying fireballs.
Players control Elgo with left and right movement buttons on the left side of the screen, and a jump button on the right. Elgo moves fast, so players' reflexes are tested as they avoid the many obstacles in each stage. Gamers can double-jump to cross larger distances or reach higher platforms, but Elgo's momentum factors into actually reaching those heights.
Each level is timed, and players are encouraged to reach the end before running out of time. If the clock hits zero, the extra time starts counting against the player, but doesn't actually end the game. Users can earn three individual badges on each level: one for collecting all of the atoms, one for collecting the hidden molecule, and one for completing the level before time hits zero.
Molecules are hidden in hard-to-reach places, typically outside of the normal running path players might normally take, and users can replay stages to earn any badges they may have missed. That being the case, it's easiest to play each level twice. Once at a slower pace, to make sure you collect all of the atoms and molecules, and once at a faster pace just to reach the proper time.
Atom Run is now available to download for free on Google Play. An ad-free version is available for $3.99. The game was previously released on iOS, and is available for $2.99 as of this writing.
