Best Minecraft Clones For iPhone, iPad And Android

There's no question that Mojang's Minecraft: Pocket Edition has its fair share of fans, as it continues to be a best seller on a weekly basis. However, not everyone is fond of it, due to its somewhat high price ($6.99) and the yearning to try something new.
Fear not! We've got five alternatives to Minecraft that will have you ambitiously building and fighting like a champ, even if it isn't with your resident blockhead. Dig in!

Terraria ($4.99)

Terraria has its similarities to Minecraft, but works from a side-scrolling perspective, resembling one of the classic 8/16-bit games of old. It's definitely complex enough, though, as you build, dig and fight your way through a fantastic world, picking up new weapon types and uncovering new places to expand your exotic world. You can also bring buddies along for good measure with the local four-player multiplayer support, where you can either work together, or fight it out for bragging rights.

Block Story ($2.99)

If Minecraft took place in the medieval era, it'd probably be a lot like Block Story, Mind Blocks' fascinating clone allows you to work with ten separate ecosystems within a huge, exploration-worthy world, summoning various creatures to join you in combat against tough enemies. Along the way, you'll be able to strengthen up and gain new abilities, which will come in handy for tougher foes later on in the game. This is one Story worth checking out.

The Blockheads (free)

If you prefer a free-to-play approach to the Minecraft formula, Majic Jungle's The Blockheads is a superb alternative. In this game, you'll dig your way through a randomly generated world, while crafting new tools that will come in handy over the course of your quest. You'll also be able to build new weaponry, as well as a boat to help get you over troubled waters. The secondary fees vary from $.99 to $9.99 (with crystals up for grabs, along with an optional HD texture pack), but it's still a considerable value.

Block Fortress ($1.99)

Why stop at just building any old structure when you can let your imagination run wild and create the ultimate fortress? In Foursaken Media's Block Fortress, you'll be able to do just that, putting together a huge skyscraper-like building with a massive crafting system. The bigger the better, too, as you'll need to contend with various Goblocks before they take over your territory. With refreshing visuals and an easy-to-use gameplay system, this is a game well worth building upon.

Star Wars: Tiny Death Star (free)

Let's say, just for curiosity's sake, you want to get away from the Minecraft formula entirely and build something really innovative. Okay...how about a Death Star? In Lucasfilm's splendid Tiny Death Star, you get to do just that, creating your own take on the mega-space station, while employing familiar faces within the Empire to get the job done. With cute bit-style graphics, a humorous take on the usual Star Wars soundtrack, and hours of gameplay to keep you entertained, it's easy to see why the Force is strong with this one.
