Kabam partners with Lionsgate for "The Hunger Games" mobile game
Social and mobile game developer Kabam has announced its partnership with Lionsgate to create a mobile game based on the popular movie franchise The Hunger Games. The game will combine the role playing and card collection genres, as players assume the identity of District members, on a mission to liberate their District and rebuild Panem.
The upcoming title will be created in Kabam's China studio, which was responsible for the hit title The Hobbit: Kingdoms of Middle-earth. That game generated more than $100 million in revenue in its first year.
"Lionsgate has an unparalleled track record of developing and producing blockbuster movie franchises like The Hunger Games," said Kabam COO Kent Wakeford. "Partnering with Lionsgate, Kabam will build a mobile game that's as much fun to play as the movie is to watch."
The next film in the franchise, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, is set for release in theaters on November 21, 2014.
"We are so pleased to be working with Kabam to give the fans an experience like they have never had before," added Danielle DePalma, Lionsgate's EVP of Digital Media. "Being able to role-play with the mentors straight from the world of The Hunger Games will let fans feel as if they are in the middle of the action."
This won't be the first time mobile gamers have experienced the Hunger Games universe on their smartphones, as Reliance Games released its endless runner, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire – Panem Run, back in November 2013. Lionsgate has also released its own branded games, including Hunger Games: Girl on Fire.
