Celebrate the World Cup one mobile app at a time

The World Cup is here, and whether you're a casual sports fan or a diehard fanatic, there are plenty of ways to celebrate your favorite teams, or the sport of soccer in general, on mobile this year. Here's a look at some of the soccer-themed updates and completely new apps, that are ready for use on your favorite smartphone or tablet.
DoubleDown Casino (iOS, Android, Kindle Fire) – DoubleDown Casino's mobile social casino experience has been updated with Final Goal, a customizable soccer-themed slot machine experience that lets players choose one of 16 countries to support while playing. While the winnings aren't real, the excitement of rooting on your favorite team definitely is.
One for Eleven (iOS, Android) – One for Eleven has announced its "World Nations Cup," giving players around the world a chance to compete against one another in this virtual tournament. There are 193 teams in total, and all that weren't claimed during an initial bidding period earlier this month are now open to all. For those who are more interested in spectating, a betting system lets you virtually bet on the outcome of each match. The tournament will last until June 24.

Soccer Rally 2: World Championship (iOS, Android) – IceFlame has updated Soccer Rally 2 with a World Championship content update. The game that combines soccer with cars now allows users to choose their favorite country, and compete in a single-player campaign against rival nations. These rivals nations' skill levels are determined by their actual real-world standings.
Forza Football (iOS, Android) – This live score app provides live scores and statistics for the 420 most popular leagues and cups around the world. For the World Cup, the platform has been updated with a prediction screen1136x1136-1system, allowing users to predict match results and overall outcomes of the event. In addition, users can turn on specific World Cup Notifications for staying up to date on the teams they like to follow.
FitStar (iOS) – FitStar: Personal Trainer has been updated with the World Cup Workout Challenge, a 10-day program which incorporates several Freestyle workout sessions into a free offering for users. The World Cup Workout Challenge runs from today to June 22.
FIFA Official (iOS, Android) – [pictured, at right] The official app of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil gives users alerts for their favorite teams, access to a Live Blog for real-time coverage of the event, and access to exclusive text, photo and video coverage not available in other apps, among other features. The app is currently the No. 1 free app on iPhone, and the No. 2 free app on iPad.
Listen (iOS, Android) – The ringback tone app has been updated with World Cup Mode, allowing users to let their callers know who they're rooting for before they ever pick up the phone. "For example, during the Brazil vs. Croatia match on June 12, Listen will change your usual dial tone to a status message saying: The person you are calling is watching Brazil take on Croatia and might not be able to take your call."
World Cup Namez (Android, coming soon to iOS) – Learn to pronounce every name associated with the World Cup, including those of players, referees, coaches and stadiums, via Namez name pronunciation app.
Footbal Stickers line
Line (iOS, Android) – The mobile messaging platform has partnered with popular soccer website Goal.com, to provide live news to Line users on every story coming out of the World Cup and beyond. In addition, users can access free England Football Fans stickers for use in their messages.
World Football Hangman (Android, coming soon to iOS) – This take on Hangman has 732 puzzles, one each for the players participating in the World Cup. In each puzzle, players must guess the name of the player on the board before it's too late.
Flick Kick Football Legends (iOS, Android, Amazon) – PikPok has updated its soccer app with the International Cup content update. In it, players can choose their favorite country, name their team, and compete in both round robin preliminary matches and a final elimination round.
