Movies, television and video games are full of zombies. That said,
Zombie Highway 2 is the sequel to the popular mobile game, and provides
even more undead splattering thrills.
The Good
The gameplay in Zombie Highway 2 is similar to the first. You drive down an abandoned highway trying to escape the zombie outbreak. While driving, zombies jump onto your vehicle and you need to get them off by any means necessary, which includes shooting, scraping them off against a wall or using your boosted acceleration. As you drive, there are many different zombies that attack. There are weak zombies, fat zombies, red zombies and more, all of which do different damage to your ride. In addition, Zombie Highway 2 has a rewind system that you can use to continue by spending a gold coin that you earn in various ways. This gives you an easy way to correct your mistakes and progress.Beyond that, Zombie Highway 2 has many different weapons and cars. The weapons are unlocked when you level up. You earn money by killing zombies and for how far you drive during each play through. You also earn gold coins for discovering new zombies. The gold coins can be used to purchase weapons faster before you level up.
The Bad
Zombie Highway 2 can be a little repetitive, primarily because the scenery does not change. You drive down the same highway each time.Like most free apps, Zombie Highway 2 has an in-game currency system. Gold coins are fairly easy to acquire, but if you spend a lot on the rewinds you will not have nearly enough to purchase the better weapons and upgrades.
Finally, the steering is a bit of a problem. Zombie Highway 2 is an endless runner, so all you need to do is steer your car. You do that by tilting your phone. The steering controls are a little loose, with any little movement affecting your vehicle. For a game where you need precise movement and control to get the zombies off, this is the difference between survival and plowing into a wall and dying.
The Verdict
Zombie Highway 2 feels like it could have been an update rather than a sequel. It's more of the same, but with better graphics and a few changes. The game is solid if you haven't played the first, but the loose steering causes too many deaths.Download Zombie Highway 2 for iPhone and iPad.
