Rougelikes are a dime a dozen on the Play Store these days, but
that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Their crushing difficulty are often
complimented by just how satisfying it is to gut a high level monster
and drink its sweet, sweet blo—I mean, loot its treasure. The latest
comes to use in the form of Cardinal Quest 2.
The
gameplay is reminiscent of classic rougelikes, you create your
character from six templates, you journey through a cave in search of
gold, and you fight anyone who gets in your way. The game features
turn-based combat and simple controls: You tap where you want to go, you
tap an enemy to fight, and you gain experience that’ll keep you in the
fight for a bit longer. The randomly generated dungeons also add some
replayablity to the overall experience.
The original Cardinal Quest
was made by a different developer, but this one comes from Kongregate,
the guys who made the online Flash version. This one is free-to-play,
but its IAPs are nothing too drastic. Buying in-game goodies top out at
$20, no $100 dollar purchases here.
