Before purchasing a new car, look over each one's stats.
Each car features three types of stats: acceleration, maximum speed, and nitro. Obviously all of them are important in different ways, but make sure you understand why. Acceleration measures how quickly your chosen car will be able to reach its top speed. Maximum speed is obvious, as it means how fast your car will be able to go when it's running at top speed. The nitro stat measures how fast your car can gain nitro from stunts. You'll want to evaluate how you play the game for what type of power-up will benefit you the most, but it's important to do so before blindly purchasing a car.
Draft behind cars to earn speed boosts
Rather than using nitro for a mini speed boost, simply keep behind cars in front of you in order to enter their slipstream. This is a common strategy in other racing games, and one that will serve you well, especially if you're low on nitro and need to rack up combos for your combo timer. Building combo chains is the key to performing well, so you'll want to employ this strategy as often as possible to stay ahead.
Chain special stunts together for a big score bonus
Each time you successfully complete a stunt, your multiplier goes up. The longer you can keep the chain going, the more points you'll receive. Make sure you save your nitro for areas where you can open up your ride completely, or complete dexterity stunts while using nitro to swerve right out of the way of oncoming obstacles or traffic to chain together completed stunts. Aerial stunts get you points as well, so why not combine nitro with heading over a ramp and rack up the points?
Try to earn as many stars as you can on each level
If you try your best to earn as many points as possible with every stunt, you'll find that you eventually net all three stars of each level. Each level comes with its own special set of rewards, and if you collect three stars on every level you'll soon be racking up different rewards with each conquered mission. You could earn cash, gold, or valuable power-ups, all of which are worth the effort in nailing down three stars for.
Be sociable and join a gang!
It may not be in your nature or mobile play style to join a group, but there are actually benefits to joining gangs in Asphalt Overdrive. If you're in an active gang, you'll recover energy quicker and can track your gang's progress against others. Your scores work in tandem together to rank your gang against others across the nation, so you've got solidarity to go on as well as competition!
