Empathy games are a huge thing in the industry, especially ones that
allow us to look through the eyes of others and attempt to understand
what might be going on in their heads. Spirits of Spring is one such
game that falls into this category, from the minds of Papo & Yo.
It's a game meant to tackle the issue of bullying without being
"preachy" or coming off in a way that's unappealing to players.
Spirits
of Spring follows a young Native American protagonist named Chiwatin,
which means "son of the North Wind" in Cree. He's on a journey to
control special spirits in order to turn the eternal winter that's
befallen him and his people into spring one more. It's a puzzle-based
affair that creative director Ruben Farrus hopes will inspire those who
have been bullied.
Spirits of Spring is $4.99 and available for iOS in six languages, with Android and PC versions coming soon.
