Castle Doombad: Free-to-Slay Review

Have you ever wondered what it's like being the bad guy, trying to hold onto a princess while do-gooders attempt to rescue her? Castle Doombad: Free-to-Slay will make you realize that maybe bad guys like Nintendo's Bowser don't have it so easy after all.

The Good

In Castle Doombad, you are a minion of the nefarious Dr. Lord Evilstein, and he has the princess trapped in his castle. Evilstein puts you in charge of preventing the heroes invading his castle from rescuing the princess. It's a tower defense style game. You set up different traps and obstacles in the path of the heroes to defeat them before they take the princess. The traps are assessed a value, and you use Scream to purchase them for use in a level. Scream is harnessed from the princess's cage, and you also get it from downed enemies or from the Scream generator.
Evilstein has many tricks up his sleeve and they are all at your disposal. There are many different traps, weapons and other minions for you to use after unlocking them. To unlock the weapons, you use coins that you get by killing enemies and successfully completing levels. The coins can also be used to upgrade your traps. You are going to need the best weapons to make sure the princess stays trapped, since many different types of heroes will try to save her. Aside from the typical soldier, there is the Adventure Man, the Sexy Knight, the Commandbro, the Lifeguard and the Super Hero.
The game is very deep with a lot of entertainment to offer. If the princess stays put, you receive a crown for that level. Getting more crowns unlocks different chapters in the game; there are 60 levels, as well as an endless mode.

The Bad

There isn't anything about Castle Doombad that is overtly bad. After every level you complete, you have to watch a video ad, but it can be skipped. The only other problem we encountered was a bit of slowdown when there were a lot of enemies on the screen.

The Verdict

Castle Doombad is an awesome tower defense style strategy game. It is a very entertaining experience. The graphics resemble a cartoon, and it has a similar kind of humor. Bottom line, Castle Doombad makes it cool to be bad.
