The Good
Godus gives you the power of a god, as the title implies. You begin the game learning how to shape the land and build a new civilization. The game is very deep, starting from the Stone Age and progressing through a timeline, so you won't be able to jump throughout different eras. You don't begin with fully developed people, but rather humans who live in little caves and evolve as you gain followers. You grow with the inhabitants as the world grows, which makes for a really cool experience because you connect with them and the world. That said, the game measures the level of happiness of the inhabitants. If they are unhappy they will leave your civilization. You need to keep the inhabitants happy if you're going to grow.
As you earn more followers, you gain belief. Belief is the currency the game uses for your character as a way to sculpt the land, build new statues, buildings and other things for your world. The game also uses gems and stickers. Stickers are used to activate cards you unlock, allowing you to utilize new items for your world. Gems, on the other hand, are used to buy more belief.
The Bad
Godus has in game purchases. You can purchase more belief or gems so you can speed up the progression of your city. While you don't need to spend real world money, it does take a long time to progress without it because you need to constantly wait for belief from your town's people to shape the world. This waiting aspect hampers the game a bit.Sculpting the land can sometimes be a chore as well. The land is set up in layers. You need to constantly scale back layers or stretch them out to build things, and depending on what your godly powers are at the time dictates which layer you can build upon. It's hard for the game to recognize at times whether you are trying to stretch land or scale it back, which can be really annoying because it costs belief for either action.
The Verdict
Godus is a fun simulation game. For a free download, it gives you a lot of value and is a very deep experience. Its slow pace and premium add-ons might turn some people off, but it is still a very solid title.Download Godus for iPhone and iPad.
