80 Days iPhone Review

Inkle Studios has created an engaging riff on the classic Jules Verne novel Around the World in 80 Days, where players take up the mantle of Jean Passepartout, traveling all around the world on an adventure that combines masterful writing and the sensibilities of a choose-your-own-adventure novel with striking graphics. In short, it's a great play.

The Good
Playing 80 Days is a lot like getting settled in with an engaging adventure novel in which your decisions propel you to the end. You're tasked with setting up specific routes to travel on between points across the world, managing your characters' well-being and keeping track of their interactions with the world through lengthy snippets of text that add undeniable flavor to the game.
It's exciting to find new locations and new routes to take as you travel across the world, and combined with gorgeous illustrations, you truly begin to feel as though this is a real trip you're planning, complete with real-world information about each destination. It becomes a game in itself to learn about each area you visit, and that alone is a big enough reason to keep plugging away for additional story development.

The Bad
The game throws a copious amount of information at players left and right, and there's no real way to file it all away for future reference. Also, it's not always rife for multiple playthroughs once you've already exhausted a couple. You'll already be privy to the twists and turns that await you at several bends.
The Verdict
80 Days is a colorful and stylized look at a classic tome that places a new twist on an otherwise familiar game type. It's well worth your time, especially if you're looking for something a little more "out of the box" when it comes to mobile gaming.
