Deep Loot iPad Review

Oceans account for 70 percent of the Earth's surface. In Deep Loot, you explore a vast ocean looking for hidden treasure.

The Good

Deep Loot is a strategy game where you dive into the ocean searching for precious items. While on your journey, you need to be mindful of your air tank. With each action you take, whether shooting an enemy, destroying a block or moving, you lose some air. Once it runs out, you must return to the surface, forcing you to think ahead before making a move. The map also changes each time you play, so you won't find things in the same place, which adds to the strategy element.
The game has a lot of treasure and things for you to discover, from small treasures like coins and gems to 18 loot collections. For these in particular, you must collect all of the items in a set. The collections include ancient relics, a Pliosaur skeleton, messages in bottles and more; finding them all gives the game a lot of depth and replay value.
There are also many pop culture and real world references in the game. While exploring, we found pieces to the Statue of Liberty, the Arc of the Covenant from Indiana Jones and a pineapple house under the sea that may belong to Spongebob Squarepants. In addition, there are many unlockables and upgrades. Using the gold you get from your plunder, you can buy new diving clothes, ships, better air tanks and weapons. These items let you explore longer and get more gold.

The Bad

Deep Loot has no story and additional game modes. It also suffers from a slow pace. You won't get much done on your first few dives because of your equipment. The game makes you grind to get the necessary funds to purchase superior items and upgrades. This makes the experience somewhat repetitive.

The Verdict

Deep Loot is a quality free-to-play game. While it lacks a plot, it's a fun title that you can pick up and start playing immediately. To really get the most from it, though, you'll need to invest plenty hours for the best gear. That said, it's time well spent.
