The Good
Mad Bullets brings you back to the Old West. You're in charge of cleaning up all the scum and villainy with the help of your six-shooter. The action in Mad Bullets is fast and furious, as enemies constantly pop up. With only three health, you need to be quick on the draw to survive. You tap the screen to return fire, while tapping your holster reloads your gun. Almost everything on the screen can be shot for points. Aside from enemies, there are civilians, animals, boxes, posters and barrels to blast. Shooting civilians causes a one-point health loss, and shooting barrels and boxes will reveal power ups and money. The money can be used to buy upgrades and power ups, or let you continue upon death. The game highlights enemies in red, civilians in green and neutral items in yellow, so there is no confusion over who is who.
The goal is to get the highest score possible as you traverse through different areas of the game. The game's settings also change with each play through; you approach crossroads after clearing each section, and you can choose your next area. The unpredictability keeps players on their toes.
The Bad
The game lacks depth because there is only one mode, and while the sections are constantly randomized, there aren't many areas to go through. On top of that, the best part about arcade shooters involves teaming up with a friend. Sadly, Mad Bullets doesn't have a co-op feature. The Verdict
Mad Bullets is a good on-rails shooter that harkens back to the classic arcade cabinet days. Its cartoony art style is a fun contrast from the more serious games on the market. Its unpredictability will keep you guessing while going for the high score. Definitely recommended.Download Mad Bullets for iPhone and iPad.
