The Good
For a game built on such a simple concept, Pocket Avenger can be a lot of fun. You'll have to strategically time your jumps carefully to avoid pitfalls and enemies. As well as varied missions, there are also upgrades you can make that improve your home base and weaponry. You can ever sign in with a buddy to tackle larger enemies together, or even face off against each other in a fast-moving stage - worth checking out.
The Bad
Repetition sets in quickly with Pocket Avenger, and the largely automatic controls don't help. Shooting and melee attacks kick in automatically when required, leaving you to focus on mere jumping. It doesn't help that there's nothing despite appearances to separate the four characters either. As for the free-to-play model, it's OK but you'll reach a point where you have to drop some cash if you want to keep playing.
The Verdict
Pocket Avenger isn't the worst zombie-killing game we've ever seen by a long shot, but the plain presentation and lack of tangible controls don't exactly make it the best of its kind either. As a free-to-play title though, it's worth having at least a quick blast with.
