Although it's hardly an NFL Blitz for this generation - you can't leg drop your opponents, after all - Football Heroes is an enjoyable game, one that lets you run, pass and tackle your way to victory.
You should have no problem putting points on the board, but here are a few tips to assist you with creating the perfect Football Heroes team.
How can I improve my team in Football Heroes?
When you first start up a game, you'll have an adequate team on your hands, but it never hurts to upgrade its players as you move through the single player mode. That said, there are two ways you can add assets to your team.
The first is by purchasing select players through the Items sub-menu. Here, you'll find a number of available players with special abilities, such as the ability to perform a group-clearing jump kick, a strong rookie or a more talented quarterback, among others. Most can be bought with in-game coins, which you'll earn over the course of each contest, but some require a direct purchase, usually no more than $1.99. Personally, you should be fine with the players available for coin purchase.
The other way is through Decks. These are a collection of cards featuring players, boosts and other assets that you can add to your collection, including Player and Combo Decks. Like the player cards, you can buy some with in-game coins, or if you prefer, an in-app purchase.
Decks are the better bargain, as you get more for your buck and, in some cases, an occasional surprise that really adds power to your team. Still, if you want a specific skill for your squad, players aren't a bad way to go.
How do I earn coins in Football Heroes?
You earn coins by taking part in games. You'll earn more if you manage to win each match-up, though you'll also earn some by completing certain objectives, such as using power-ups, completing a certain amount of passing yards or making three or more touchdowns during a contest. Some are more challenging than others, but by the end of the game, you'll earn a pretty sweet bankroll.
If you wish to make even more moolah, you can purchase a coin doubler for an additional $2.99 - or you can just buy more coins directly, ranging anywhere from $0.99 for 500 coins, all the way to $19.99 for 35,000 coins. We only suggest doing this if you want to bump up your skills in the game right away. Otherwise, just play it out - the game's pretty easy to beat if you know what you're doing.
How can you make your team better in Football Heroes?
Well, there's the first option, which involves adding new key players to your squad. The second is by having players tough it out and level up as they stay with the team, improving in a number of areas.
Receivers, for example, will see an increase in a number of areas, including punch damage, block, catch, run route and more. They're slow increases, but they eventually make them better players over time. Meanwhile, a quarterback will improve throw distance, speed, accuracy and spiral, all of which will make him a better performer on the field.
It's your choice, but it's not a bad thing trying to turn your default squad into peak performers.
What power-ups can you use in Football Heroes?
There are a number of power-ups available for each player, it just depends on their position, and in some cases, skill set. They usually unlock automatically, depending how you're performing on the field.
For instance, the quarterback can obtain a fire pass, which speeds up the flow of the play more than usual, and also makes it more likely for your receiver to catch the ball.
Offensive players really have the best batch of power-up moves. They can do everything from a spin punch to a flaming Hadouken-style Street Fighter uppercut to a powerful grand slam, which levels any rival players in their zone. Receivers also have a bomb they can leave behind, which devastates any pursuing defensemen. It's like something out of a Looney Tunes cartoon.
You can see what power-ups are available in the game's My Team menu, though the more players you add, the more likely you are to receive more of them.
How do boosts work in Football Heroes?
Boosts provide a general advantage to the team overall, and can usually be found in the item decks. While none are as powerful as something like the Coin Booster, they can make a difference, such as a slight increase in power (making it easier to knock down opponents) or speed (giving you a boost to the end zone).
