Zombie Catchers iPhone Review

Zombie games share a nearly universal concept: the living dead now inhabit the earth, so you must run away and kill them before they kill you. Zombie Catchers puts a new spin on zombies by having you chase and hunt them for a change, which is an interesting premise, but does the game deliver?

The Good

So what happens when an alien and a robot team up? They go catch zombies and make them into delicious food, of course! In Zombie Catchers, you've started a new business that's becoming quite popular and you need to go and get more and more zombies to turn them into drinks to feed to your hungry customers. The concept is very unique and the gameplay is very addicting. You go into the swamps and lure the zombies out by placing brains on the ground. Once the zombies come out of the swamps you need to rely on your harpoon gun, nets, tranquilizers, and more to try to catch the zombies. You need to be fast though because unlike most zombies, they will run away from you as fast as they can. There are many different kinds of zombies that will unlock as you level up in the game and different zombies make different kinds of food and drinks. Every time you catch a certain amount of zombies you put them into the zombie mashers to make the food. Everything in the game can be upgraded; your weapons, the zombie mashers, and your character can all be modified to help make the game easier and give you an edge and more money. They can be upgraded and purchased using the money you get from selling the food.

The Bad

Zombie Catchers forces you to wait constantly, which is frustrating beyond belief. After each zombie hunt, you have to wait for your zombie tracker to find more zombies, unless you use plutonium to speed up the process or watch a video. You need to wait, set times for each of your tasty treats to be made so you can receive your gold. There is also the wait times for your secondary weapons to reload. All the waiting that you have to do really cuts into your playtime and hampers the experience. Plutonium is fairly easy to come by because you receive a bar after capturing a certain amount of zombies, but it runs out pretty fast because of all the times you need to use it. Plutonium as well as gold can also be bought using real world money if you are desperate.

The Verdict

Zombie Catchers is a fun and unique title. It's very creative in its approach to the genre, and it's a blast to play. The amount of waiting you have to do to play gets really annoying and the game constantly makes you take breaks because of the wait times.
