Metal Skies iPhone Review

The term "dogfight" describes in-air combat between two fighter planes. The X-Wing and Tie Fighter battles in Star Wars helped popularize dogfights, but it was during World War II that the in-air skirmishes became prevalent. Take to the skies and become the king of the air with Metal Skies, where dogfighting is especially prevalent.

The Good

Metal Skies takes you back to the time of World War II, where you're a fighter pilot that has been recruited to be apart of Tiger Squad and your mission is to take out the evil Shadow Jaegers. The game is a dogfight simulator and you are outfitted with guns and missiles to take out the enemy. You can upgrade and customize your plane with coins that you get from defeating enemy planes. There are a lot of customization options so you can make your plane how you'd like it. There are two modes of play. There is a campaign mode and a multiplayer mode. The campaign has a lot of missions and tells the story of your characters rise through Tiger Squad. The multiplayer mode allows you to battle against other players in versus dogfights.

The Bad

Metal Skies use an energy system that has to reload after a certain number of plays. It takes a few minutes to reload all of your stamina, unless you are willing to pay for it. This is a cheap way to space out the game, but the game still gets fairly repetitive pretty fast. The dodging mechanism is fairly random and it doesn't take much skill to hold your finger on the screen to shoot.

The Verdict

Metal Skies is a fun shooter that simulates aerial dogfights. The game has a good concept, but doesn't offer enough to keep it from being repetitive after a short while.
