Despicable Me: Minion Rush Review

Movie tie-in games are nothing new to the Android scene, lots of popular movies create them to spike buzz about their film or introduce some aspect of the film early. But “Despicable Me: Minion Rush” doesn’t follow the course of the movie, or even the main characters. It takes our scene-stealing minions to the front stage as they battle each other for the ‘Minion of the Year’ trophy.
Although it will be very much akin to ‘Temple Run’ and its many follow ups as an endless runner game, Minion Rush has the advantage of having a pre-established fan base from lovers of the first Despicable Me movie and the little yellow minions. The game tasks you with guiding a yellow minion through an obstacle course that is set up throughout the laboratory of the world’s greatest villan himself, Gru, all in attempts to impress him and win the coveted ‘Minion of the Year’ trophy. Players will run, jump, fly, collect bananas and avoid various obstacles to get to the ultimate trophy goal.

I enjoyed my time playing Minion Rush, having been a fan of the original Despicable Me movie. The game is complimented by accurate voice work that is close to the voice of the original voice actor of Gru, Steve Carrell. The Minions all have their little cheers and grunts which will excite any fan of the movie. Graphics are very clean and crisp and the animations are fun and fresh aside from just the usual run, jump, slide animations of other endless runner type games.

I did encounter some longer load times upon the first boot up of the game but that could have been due to my phone being a little older in age.
As a free to play game, Despicable Me: Minion Rush was a very enjoyable experience. The game does feature some in app purchases but players don’t need to invest in the add ons to experience the game at its fullest. Despicable Me: Minion Rush is a fun endless runner game that everyone should give a try given its price. The game is now available on the Google Play Store.
