Rymdkapsel – Tips and Tricks

It was not long ago that Rymdkapsel (Swedish for Space Capsule) went on sale, so I'm sure many of you would have listened to me and picked it up. If not, what is wrong with you?? I'm just kidding of course. You might have been turned off by the name or the lack of graphics, and I totally understand.

Plan your space
See what I did there? Plan your "space"? No?
Okay, first of all, you need to know that Rymdkapsel is not only a strategy game, but it is also partly a space exploration game. However, the only way to explore space is to build more corridors and rooms. So don't be stingy with your space, spread out the rooms and corridors so that it reaches further and further out. Trust me, exciting things are out there, like vital resources and mysterious monoliths.
Contrary to what I said earlier, some rooms should not be spread out too far as well. When the enemies come knocking at your door, you need your people at their battle stations ready to attack, and they can't do that if the weapon rooms are too far apart and too few to withstand the onslaught.
Some rooms are also dependent with one another, and should not be too far away. That's why it is very important to plan ahead where you are going to insert each room. The Tetris-shaped blocks adds another layer of complexity you have to deal with. When building a room, choose the shape that best suit your needs. This can be done by building and cancelling a room to switch to the next shape.

Plan your resources
Always keep an eye on your resources and don't bleed yourself dry. If you can see the resources on around you, start building towards it and planning what you are going to do with the resources from that node. Similarly, when you notice an internal resource getting low, start building the room that supplies that resource. Don't wait until you are completely out of it, or you will suffer a painful death, or forced to sell a room.
Get to the monoliths!
Those monoliths provide special boosts and benefits once researched. They are normally located at the four corners of your spaceship when you first begin. The top left gives you speed, top right gives you a bonus to extracting resources, bottom right slows the enemies down and the lower left boosts the attack range.
Depending on your strategy, you might want to prioritize certain monoliths more than others. Personally, I like to go top left first because it speeds up my crew, which speeds up everything else.
Lastly…
This is a strategy game, so always be on your toes. Always keep an eye on when the enemy is coming and be prepared for the next attack. While you're defending, think of what you will be building next and work your way towards getting the resources to do it.
"Always be two steps ahead and you will never get left behind."
