GREE, Ubisoft and PlayNext have launched Assassin's Creed Memories on iOS devices. The game mixes card battle with RPG and strategy elements, as users collect and interact with characters from the Assassin's Creed universe, and will level-up over time by completing missions. Cards come in three categories, for weapons, armor and allies, with allies having special abilities while in combat.
Assassin's Creed Memories is split into two main sections for single-player and multiplayer gameplay. Users can compete in 20-vs-20 guild battles, playing buffs that help the entire team, or attacking individual opponents over time. Actions cost action points to complete, adding strategy to the mix, as users must decide which actions are worth those points. If things turn sour, users can call in aids from the Assassin's Creed universe to help their team in battle.
Outside of multiplayer, users can explore multiple historical eras in the single-player mission mode. This mode stars familiar assassins like Altair and Ezio, and sees players following their stories through the Third Crusade and other locations. Players spend energy in this mode, which limits the length of a single gameplay session, but they can earn lots of coins and experience points in the mode's chance-based missions. That is, users tap on a mission with a success rate. If the mission is a success, they receive a boost on future missions. If not, the success percentage drops back down to "normal," and players have to start again.
These story chapters end with assassination missions, which see players tapping as fast as they can on the screen to chase after their assigned target. Finally, gamers can send their ally cards on contract missions to earn rewards even while they're away from the game.
After users have completed a few missions, they'll have the currency necessary to purchase free card packs in the store. These cards contain weapons and armor that can be equipped to the gamer's in-game avatar. Cards can be upgraded to increase their strength, while others can be merged with like-cards in order to unlock even more stat boosts. Like merging, general card upgrades see users spending lesser cards to upgrade those they'd like to keep.
While free-to-play, Assassin's Creed Memories is supported by in-app purchases, as users can spend real money on premium cards in the store. The game is available to download for free on iOS devices.
