Shelter Review

This is another zombie game.
However, if you're planning to download this , you would be sorely disappointed. What Shelter is however, is a clever tactical turn-based card game that not only has you building and customizing your deck to fight the undead horde, but also to survive and find allies along the way that will help in your battles.
The story of Shelter is fleshed out in a comic-book art style, and it starts with the main character trying to find his love one who was inadvertently separated from him in this frightening apocalypse that has plagued the land. You click on locations on the map to investigate the location for survivors, weapons and equipment.
Shelter
When you investigate a location, you are thrown into the card battling mode. This is where most of your time will be spent battling zombies. In this battle mode, you are given two wooden doors, two reinforced wood doors, and a metal door as your last defense. At every turn, zombies will be deployed on the board and it is your job to equip weapons and kill all the zombies in the horde before they break through the defenses and eat your brains. Melee weapons can be used when doors are broken down and they are in short range. You can also use various equipments to help such as wooden planks to reinforce the doors, health boosters or weapon upgrades, but everything costs Action Points. As you are only given 5 action points to begin with, the difficulty lies in successfully balancing between equipping weapons, upgrades, healing, and defense. Completing chapters in the story mode will give you allies which will increase your action points and offer special bonuses.
After being victorious in battle, you gain the option of choosing two extra cards between guns, melee weapons and equipment to add to your deck. As you earn more cards, you can choose what you want to bring into battle based on the type of enemy you will be facing and your playstyle. Are you the type that likes to go all out gun-toting? Or perhaps you're the kind that takes his time and wins by outwitting brainless blood-seeking creatures. The game gives you the freedom to choose the way you want to win.
Overall, Shelter is a good mixture of zombie elements and tactical card battler. The game doesn't really do anything special, but it excels in what it aims to do. You are constantly thrown new and different types of zombies that require different strategies, so the battles never get stale. Instead, you'll be scratching your head trying to figure out the best way to get rid of these pesky creatures who, despite your best efforts, always seem to come back in another game. In the meantime, if you're a fan of strategic card dueling, you're gonna wanna get this one.
