ARC Squadron: Redux iPhone Review

Considering the App Store is unlikely to receive a version of Nintendo's StarFox anytime soon, users will have to make do with the next best thing - Psyonix's savvy 3D shooter Arc Squadron Redux. An improved version of an app released last year, Redux provides more than enough galaxy-saving action to keep everyone entertained.
Featuring a huge campaign with various bosses and challenges in every corner of the galaxy, ARC Squadron: Redux is likely to keep you busy for some time to come - and at very little cost too, since it's a free-to-play game.

The Good
You'll find dazzling graphics and quality audio throughout Redux, especially when it comes to your snarky captain who forces you to earn his respect. Combat plays well too, with a very simple and elegant touchscreen system for shooting, dodging and rolling your ship. The challenge picks up in later levels, but you've got all the tools you need for the job - and there are plenty of upgrades to unlock without the need to spend money in the cash store.
The Bad
There's very little about the game that's particularly negative, but there are two things worth noting. First, the game takes a while to load up at first - about a minute - and so there's an annoying delay before you can start fighting. Secondly, while the controls are superb for the most part, firing missiles requires a very precise tap which can be tricky in the thickest of battles.
The Verdict
For a game that costs very little throughout and yet offers so much, Arc Squadron Redux is perfect for gamers of all tastes.
