Classic Review “Snake”

I cannot believe that it has been 15 years ago since the game Snake was introduced onto cell phones, the first being Nokia in 1998.
15 years does seem like a long time, but Snake has been around longer than 15 years. In the mid-70’s Snake had a variety of games that date way back to the classic arcade game Blockade, where it was first introduced, then in the late 70’s made its way to the Atari home console, where the named was changed to Surround. Snake been on different systems and had gone through name changes here and there, but the game it had always been the same.
classic snake game
The objective of the game is to control your snake around the room while feeding it food, as you eat your tail grows longer. And as you are doing this you have to avoid hitting the walls and eating your own tail, this make this part of the game increasingly difficult. To control your snake you would press 2, 6, 8, and 4 to make it go up, right, down, and left respectively.
The look was there, as well as the “beep” sound, and gameplay, but it just felt a little awkward playing on a touch-screen phone but I eventually got used to it. I’m so used to hold the Nokia phone while I had my thumbs at the ready on the 2, 6, 8, and 4 buttons. To put it in other words it was like trying to play Super Mario Bros, with a PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 controller feels awkward at first but with time get used to it.
Now whether you download the Snake ’97, Classic Snake ’97 or Classic Snake 2 version, they all have the same extras. I just wonder why there’s the ’97, Snake didn’t come onto the Nokia till ’98.
Some of the extra include changing the background of the phone; you can play on the Nokia 3310, 3210, or the 5190. As well there are two modes of play where you can choose to have you snake go through walls or not.
Playing this classic game is just like I remembered; fun, addicting, and at times frustrating. I also remember putting endless hours into this game, trying my best to beat my friends score, or my own. Not only did Snake remind of the endless hours wasted but how a long way cell phone games came and evolved.
This classic game is free at the Google Play Store. Enjoy!

Prince of Persia: The Shadow and The Flame Review

The long wait is over, and the Prince is back in an all new adventure. Our good folks at Ubisoft delivered the goods in developing Prince of Persia: The Shadow and The Flame or POP: SoF for short.
Now for those of you that are new to the series Prince of Persia was first released in 1989 on the Apple II.  The game has influenced the sub-genre known as “cinematic platformer”. It had interspersing intelligent puzzles and deadly traps and fighting enemies here and there doing all this, to save the princess. The Prince has also has his fair share of being on consoles, first being on the NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) and now the Prince is back on the Android.
pop shadow flame
The story takes place after the events of the first Prince of Persia (1989). The Prince must now set on a new adventure that will set him to search his past to ensure his future. You will have to run through 14 levels, and have to climb up and down buildings, fight off any baddies that stand in your way. The entire classic sword-fighting and intelligent puzzle solving that you loved in the original game is all here.
You’ll notice that the game’s visuals are beautifully stunning, the graphics are gorgeous, and the game sounds amazing. And most of all it has the classic Prince of Persia feel to it.
Controlling the Prince is smooth as butter. He literally moves like water. You have to modes of controls to choose from, you have the “gesture” mode that allows you to swipe the left side of the screen to move left and right, and to climb, and on the right side you have the action screen that will able you to jump, attack , and defend. With the “joystick” mode you have a joystick (D-pad) icon on left screen, and you have the action buttons on the right. Whichever you choose both control modes work well.
Having this been a sequel to the original game you’d wish that there were more extra to unlock but sad to say there isn’t much. There are a few swords, potions, and combos to buy, but when I say a few believe me it’s a few. You also get pack bundles, that will have health potions and revive potions, or they will have both potions along with a combo. There are also achievements for you to try and achieve. You can also share scores with you Facebook friends if you decide to log in.
POP: SoF had all the great elements from the first game, and along with upgraded visuals and sounds makes this game a hit with fans of the series. Even if you’re not a fan and want to try a great platformer POP: SoF deserves a chance to be played.  This game is available at the google play store for $2.99. Happy gaming gamers

Respawnables Review

Just like endless runners on mobile games, shooters too can also be very addictive, but if it’s done right. And thankfully Respawnables is a shooter done right.
Now if the Call of Duty franchise was to soften their image, and make the game made for a less than 18 year old audience, Respawnables would be the result.  This is a 3rd person shooter, and your objective is to shoot as many enemies as you can within the time limit.
When you first start playing the game you will notice that it has a comic book, cartoon like visuals. And when you play the single play missions it’s more like a free for all, it’s all for though.
respawnables review
As you are going through the map and trying to eliminate as many enemies as you can, as time is counting down, getting that high score. This game is indeed addictive.
The visual of this game are nice looking, as the environments look very detailed, and you character look like he was pulled right out of a comic and put into the game.  The sounds are what you expect of a good shooter, the sounds of guns blazing, the moaning sound of when you or another character, dies, explosive cans exploding.
The controls may take a little getting used to, moving your character is smooth as butter but the targeting and shooting button are beside each other, and at times I have my right finger on the top of my phone and when I feel like shooting someone I tend to press the top of my phone realizing that I’m playing my phone and not playing on my console.   So like I said it will take some practice getting used to that.
Respawnables was developed by Zynga, and when games are developed by Zynga you have a lot to unlock. There is a ton of stuff at the store for you to buy and try out. Now most of the stuff can be unlocked by leveling up. There are different types of guns such as a shotgun, and dual pistol, but some guns will require you to buy it with gold or having to use you own money such as MIB’s Noisy Cricket (Remember in the first MIB movie where K passes that small gun to J). There are also different types of heads, shirts, pants for you to buy and they all have different attributes such as adding more health or accuracy. You can also get the proton gun, from the movie Ghostbusters.
Yes folks there is multiplayer in the game, but this is somewhat of a down fall to the game unless you have a lot of friends who that Respawnables or have a lot of people who have this game the multiplayer mode is not that exciting to play. I have tried playing both multiplayer modes there are Team VS, and Free for All and I at times I had one player join me with ease at other times it took over 8 minutes to look for other players.
If you are looking for a shooter on the go Respawnables is the game to pick up and it’s free, but like I had mentioned before unless there are a lot of people who have this game on their Android, the multiplayer isn’t fun at all. Thankfully there is single player for you to enjoy, happy gaming.

Terribad Game of The Week: Fast Racing

What I truly adore about the Android Market place is the massive library of free games, free games made by indie developers, free games made by big-time studios. But thanks to the open-ended aspect of Google’s market, there comes a slew of hideous, terribly hilarious games.
Fortunately, we here at Android Entity completely understand what our brethren are like. As gamers, mobile games aren’t exactly the platform we want to be on– but when we are, we are most likely playing in small windows of time, hoping for bite sized morsels of entertainment. That is why today– we will help you avoid the deviously bad games, disguising themselves in Google Play’s “Top Free” section.
fast racing
The first game to get the treatment is none other than Doodle Mobile Ltd’s, Fast Racing. A game that promises “the fastest and most exhilarating 3D racing action”, Fast Racing sits nicely at the number nine spot of the Google Play store. With an average rating of 4.5 stars, and over 5 million downloads, I wouldn’t blame anyone if they downloaded the title. I’d just be confused as to why they stayed playing it.
From the get go, it is entirely obvious that Fast Racing is just a blatant rip off of Gameloft’s released racing series, Asphalt. Using the same color coated car as their logo– it’s clear the quality of this game isn’t exactly..original.
After regrettably tapping on the icon, Fast Racing thrusts you into a quick, low-res loading screen, followed by a poorly made main menu. Here you can select the shop icon, options, a career mode, or quick race. Why you would, I’m not entirely sure.
The gameplay of Fast Racing is incredibly basic, though that in itself is not necessarily a problem. What is a problem, however, is how quickly you’ll realize there is nothing to do. With only a small, needless, drift function, and a turbo boost (activated via tap of the screen)– Fast Racing attempts to offer easy to pick up gameplay, but really only provides a drudgery and boring form of racing.
The AI in all of the modes will be of no challenge for anyone that has the ability to turn their phones (or tablets), and the graphics of the game are dull, empty- and blocky. This wouldn’t be an issue, if the game itself didn’t promise HD graphics.
The cars are non-creative, and  all around look the same. Upgrades and purchases are ludicrously priced and don’t present themselves as anything desirable. All of this, plus the fact that the designers of Fast Racing have done nothing in particular to make you feel– well, fast, are great reasons to save yourself time and memory.

Bad Traffic Review

The thought of “Bad Traffic” is a nightmare to a lot of drivers who commute daily, even more so to Police Officers who may have to direct it.
But not to worry though you won’t have to drive through it, you just have to direct traffic with a good/bad twist.
At the start of the game , you will be given the choice to play as either the Guardian Angel in or the Devil’s Advocate both have different ways of directing traffic.
bad traffic review
As the Guardian Angel, your job is to get the flow of traffic across the intersection without the other cars crashing into each other, and if you do manage to get the others cars to safety you move on to the next level. To control the cars, simply tap on the cars to stop, but will only be stopped for 5 seconds then move on. And swipe on the cars you want, to move them faster.
Your job as the Devil’s Advocate is to crash into the other cars to make them explode, the challenging part is making enough cars explode within the time limit. By swiping at a car will allow it to move fast hitting another car, or truck.
Playing as either the Guardian Angel or Devil’s Advocate you will get an overview look, at 3 different intersections per city. The graphics are colorful, and appealing. The sound of cars honking, exploding, and tires screeching realistic enough to believe that you are directing traffic without really being there. Progressing to higher levels also get more challenging as you are saving cars or making them explode.
This game has enough extras at the store to make you wanting more. Cars from the Back to the Future series “The Delorean” and The Bat-mobile are there. And upgrading an armoured truck that will give you coins is at the store too.
Bad Traffic was an enjoyable experience; I also enjoy the fact that there are two modes of play as well as the extra content. This one is a freebie, so if you want to waste time blowing off road rage steam, give it a try.
Final rating: 3.5 out of 5.

Airport Scanner Review

There are two things that I love about free games: 1) their free and 2) if the game is a “miss” and you can just deleted it without saying to yourself “I can’t believe that I wasted my money on that terrible game”. or it will be a “hit”.  Fortunately Airport scanner is a “hit”. It’s an arcade game that is free and fun to play.
As the name implies Airport Scanner puts the player in control and in charge of operating an X-RAY scanner, working for the “Transportation Security Administration” TSA.
airport scanner review
Now as bags of luggage make their way onto the luggage belt and through the scanner, you have to identify the illegal items such as crossbows, crowbars, and pistols. A list will be shown to you at the start of the level.
To get rid of the items just simply tap on them, and you will see security grab the passenger and kick him or her along with the luggage out of the airport. When you do remove the item, swipe them of the belt to get points added to your score. As you are trying to do all this you have to make sure that you keep the line moving as you get passengers on the plane before time runs out.
Sure it sounds simple and plays simple. But at times it can be tough, as things start to get really get crazy when the luggage belt is moving too fast. And sometimes slowing the belt down can to more harm than good, if you hold it down to long. By all means some of the levels are not impossible to pass, but by having a careful balance of speed and accuracy makes the level challenging.
Finishing a level successfully will earn you cash, which can be used to purchase items like a new X-RAY machine, and new upgrades for your scanner. There is also a fun bonus game that allows you to punish passengers for money.
Overall, Airport Scanner with its silly cartoonish arcade game that is fun, addictive, and a great time passer to play. There are tons of stuff to buy, and achievements to earn. I’ve been enjoying this game thoroughly and I still am.
Be sure to pick this free game at the Google play store.
