Beastopia is a turn-based RPG powered by beasts. That's how its creator describes it to me, at least.
These
beasts include Vincent-Van-Goat, Doctor Hoo, Fat-Boar Slim, Jane Doe,
Megunn Fox, and Stephen Hawk. While these names are jokes the game
itself is not, I am told.
Beastopia was created in the
last month by a small team at Mobility Games after they were given a
month off their main project to "do [their] own thing."
It plays
like a board game and therefore has you moving mini-figure versions of
the beasts around on a grid. You battle other beasts and unlock treasure
chests to win.
Before that, though, you have to assemble a team
of four (out of six) beasts. Each beast has its own special skill to
take into consideration during this process.
These skills include lockpicking, chest smashing, trap disarming,
increased view range, and healing. (You can guess as to which beast has
which skill.)
There will be three maps available in Beastopia
when it launches tomorrow but no tutorial (one of the disadvantages of
rapid game creation). However, it will be free to download so if you
can't pick it up you'll have lost nothing.
