Beach Buggy Blitz Review

Developer Vector Unit is no stranger to racing games having churned out Shine Runner and the amazing Riptide GP series. They were lauded, among other things, for their stunning graphics and water effects. The term “console-quality” definitely has been thrown around especially after their first game, Hydro Thunder Hurricane, was a success on the Xbox and later on Windows 8.
Beach Buggy Blitz is their latest foray into the Android Market, but their first featuring something other than boats. The game plays pretty much like Temple Run in the way that you collect coins and try to get as far as possible, but instead of swiping left and right to change lanes, you tap on the left side of the screen to turn left and on the right to turn right. Tilt controls are also available in the settings for those who prefer it. Brake pedals are located at the bottom left and bottom right for players to take corners more effectively, but be aware that there is a clock ticking down, so too much braking will affect the outcome of your score.

As can be expected, the graphics are a joy to behold, not only in the most traditional sense, but also because most of the environment is destructible. Accelerate into a beach house and it crumbles before your eyes; steer into a seagull and it yelps and bounces across the beach. Yes, seagulls. In addition to that, the tracks are randomly generated each time you start the game so you’ll never know what is up ahead, including volcanoes. Who doesn’t like volcanoes? Exploring the lush visuals is as much enjoyable as racking up the coins.
Coins earned go into buying new cars, drivers, power-ups and gadgets. The vast variety of things you can unlock will keep you coming back for more, as these will help you improve your distance and coins earned and gives players a sense of progression.
Overall, Beach Buggy Blitz is a wonderful game to have when you are in the subway, waiting for the bus or just relaxing on your sofa on a Sunday afternoon. It is absolutely free to download and play, so if, like me, you want some variety in your endless-racing genre, look no further.
